Why are We a “Fathers’ Rights” Firm?

DADvocacy™ | August 11, 2023

We describe ourselves as a fathers’ rights firm, but that doesn’t mean that we are “anti mom.” Quite the opposite. As a fathers’ rights firm, we advocate for a child’s right to a meaningful relationship with both parents; given that goal, we recognize that mothers and fathers are often situated differently in relation to custody and child support issues. Consequently, dads may suffer from bias against men as nurturing caretakers.

Mothers are often awarded physical custody of the child and act as the custodial parent. As such, they possess the right to free child support enforcement services as part of the Social Security Act in every single state (and territory) of the USA. This free enforcement assistance can provide many services that a private attorney cannot provide, especially if the non-custodial parent is one of those jerks* who is refusing to pay.

If you are the custodial parent seeking child support from the non-custodial parent, you are entitled to use this free service…and why wouldn’t you opt to use this right for free instead of paying a private attorney? We advise the custodial parent, often the mother, to use these services instead of inviting them to spend good money to chase a jerk* who won’t pay child support. Why? Because we want our clients to benefit from a substantial “return on investment” when hiring us as attorneys. But retaining an attorney may not offer the best ROI for a custodial parent as the recovery rarely exceeds the cost of a lawyer.

A caveat: Where a high-wealth dad is hiding assets in an attempt to reduce or to avoid support, a private attorney may be useful, as private attorneys are better suited to deal with high-wealth cases involving hidden assets (e.g., hidden overseas or buried in corporations or under the ownership of third parties).

All that said, DADvocacy serves several moms as our clients. We are happy to work with both moms and dads, assuming that your case is a good fit for both the firm and your needs.

*We don’t work with those dads.
