Remarriage After Divorce?

DADvocacy™ | January 13, 2024

Moving on from divorce and into a new relationship is sign of healing and reason for celebration.

It is also a reason for caution and for applying hard lessons learned if you wish to make a life together with your new love.

In the same way that you buy life insurance or plan your retirement package or your children’s college fund, you also have to plan for the reality of a life together…or a life apart. Prenuptial agreements protect people in the same way car insurance or health insurance does.

Gone are the days when prenuptial agreements were considered a slap in the face by the soon-to-be spouse who was asked to sign one.

What prenups are:

  • Prenups are common legal documents that allow couples who enter into marriage to protect their best interests and to create a less worrisome future.
  • Prenups kick in just like any other insurance: you hope you don’t need it, but you are relieved when you have it.

What prenups are not:

  • They are not a means of cheating one’s spouse out of anything.
  • They are not an indictment of the marriage itself.
  • Prenups aren’t always about wealth. There are many reasons for pursuing a prenup, and these reasons are often unrelated to one spouse’s greater wealth.
  • Prenup services do protect parters from third-party creditors when one partner comes to the marriage with debt.
  • They are not at all more likely to leave a couple more vulnerable to divorce.

All of this being said, however, one person entering into a marriage often has more interest in a prenup than the other. This is where a mediated prenuptial agreement can help.

If you have questions or concerns related to a Florida prenup or postnuptial agreement, including one that has already been drafted years ago, the dedicated prenuptial attorneys at Just Prenups Law Firm in Florida are here to help. We can draft an agreement for new couples, or update an existing agreement to match changes that have occurred over the years.

If you believe that a dedicated fathers’ law firm is the right one for you, please talk with us. Our approach is rooted in our commitment to DADvocacy™:

Our Florida fathers’ rights lawyers know that most dads are facing an uphill legal battle when pulled into a divorce. Family law courts historically rule out of favor of men due to preexisting social biases….[W] believe in a fair and balanced legal process that protects and upholds the rights of divorcing fathers, not shuns them.

As a service to dads, the DADvocacy™ Law Firm offers free resources in our DIY Toolshed. While such resources can never substitute for the services of a licensed attorney, they can help you to familiarize yourself with the legal process.
