Why is my child support so high?
By DADvocacy™ | January 8, 2013From time to time, I meet with clients who appear to have a high child support order even when their current income is the same as when child support was set. Often, a high child care expense paid by the other parent is the cause. It is important to ask for proof of the daycare expense, but as most working parents will tell you, child care can be extremely expensive. It is important to make sure that when such child care expense decreases or is eliminated (such as when a child enters VPK or Kindergarten) that the child support be lowered accordingly. A mom who needs help with legitimate and necessary child care expenses should get that help from dad, but it should also be the case that when she no longer has the expense, that dad doesn’t have it either.
